Gong my beloved
Gonna need that crying Mao emote.
And the crying chicken
Eating a meal? A succulent Chinese meal?
Ah, yes. I see that you know your judo well. Good one.
Gonna need crying Mao and crying statue of Liberty hitting the gong as emojis.
Holy shit he used my joke
@Stan_Kelly show urself
New emoji
i tried…
The wide frame is pretty good too
lmao, the chicken next to general tso and Mao got me.
there’s an onion video floating around as a “Behind the Pen” with Kelly about his “process” with visual examples of his drafts and editorial changes.
basically a gag is that he is a billion times more cartoonishly racist and stupid than you would think, and he goes back and forth with the editor who makes him tone it down in order to get published. it’s outrageously oniony.
oh wow… so… all this time I thought this kelly guy was actually super racist and it was just a bit that hexbear likes to post it as satire… but it actually really is satire?
His lib persona is actually crazy good deep cover satire, so much so that he himself doesn’t even know he is doing satire.
Kelly is an artist from The Onion who is a parody of Ben Garrison
ok… wow… genius
Kelly Comics are the best part of The Onion at this point

Once and a while I like to put Lady Liberty in the cartoon
this is
a window into the normal american political cartoonist’s mind
holy shit I was not ready for that lmao
I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:
Kelly’s magnum opus
I gotta acknowledge the effort that went into mixing stereotypically Japanese and Chinese elements with just the right amount of cultural ignorance.
I believe the comic is depicting a Chinese restaurant in the US. Chinese food restaurants in the US often sell Japanese food or elements of Japanese cuisine because Japanese restaurants were shut down during the WWII Japanese internment camps. US Chinese food restaurants started selling some Japanese foods to fill the market gap and many of the Chinese food restaurants still continue that.
All the Chinese places where I live are owned by Koreans. You can tell when they have bulgogi at the bottom of the menu.
Also pretty much all Mexican places where I live are owned by Salvadorian. You can tell when they have papusa on the menu and it’s better than the tacos.
my first job was at a Greek place owned and operated by a Vietnamese family.
Oh god the South Park episode
I’m not familiar
South Park is an “adult” animated cartoon created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, two libertarians who have a “everything is dumb and caring about things is stupid” approach to politics and life in general. South Park often met controversy for its crude humour, and as a result, was very popular with teenage boys who uncritically adopted the smug nihilist attitudes of its creators. You could think of it kind of like the proto-Rick and Morty if that helps.
Is the family sitting on top of a table? Cause if you look where the waiter’s legs cut off as well as the door, they’re on some kind of raised surface
At some Japanese restaurants, there are raised floors with tatami mats and you’re supposed to take your shoes off before stepping on them. It seems like the Americans from this comic haven’t done that though. Here’s a screenshot from Yokai Watch lol
That checks out.
I think it’s supposed to be like (some weeb come help me out here with terminology) that stereotypical paper wall type-beat, and the dining area is raised relative to the ground outside
kind of like this
Tatami seating
Thank you!
Kelly has the right idea with Mao in heaven.
: “Are you guys sure I did all that to those landlords? I can’t find any of them here!”
Countdown to the Mao crying in Heaven emoji.
It’s impressive how rarely Kelley’s stuff veers past the uncanny racism valley into “ironic racism is still racism” territory
cooking-weary moms
it’s me except of course even takeout chinese has never been but a splurge in this life.
Before anyone @'s me, I think there should be 15-min-city-esque big wok sites where a few guys with healthcare and safety nets provide 300 chinese takeouts at a time veganly and then if you want you can order meat on top
We need the KUNG POW!
