Reading small font text has not been shown to cause damage to the eyes (although you may experience eye strain from prolonged accommodation). I’m a visual psychophysicist. We often recommend that people take breaks when doing near-work. The 20-20-20 rule: look at something that is 20 feet away for 20 seconds every 20 minutes.
