I think it is because Chomsky’s name has been associated with Epstein before this, and when new information popped they reported what is in there. Mainly how Chomsky remained in contact even after knowing the issues of Epstein. I think they did a good job of reporting it properly, instead of sensationalising it, by just explaining the new stuff that is unsealed.
Epstein was interested in Chomsky for some reason due to his expertise in linguistics, or so it’s been speculated.
It’s possible chomsky had nothing to do with Epstein’s nefarious and illegal activities.

I was watching a big documentary of Epstein yesterday that’s really good (Epstein Filthy Rich) and an important point was Epstein spent a ton of effort in his later years donating and intermingling and injecting himself into academia in a reputation rehabilitation effort, he was inserting himself into all kinds of orgs and venues. Shame on Chomsky for not being more careful and I don’t know what, but Epstein was real pushy to get alongside such folks.
Yeah, if you check Jmail, you can find a bunch of random emails with all kinds of scientists who appear to be basically on call for when Epstein has a weird (often drug induced) science question. Stumbled on names that I know, but luckily only ever appeared on science funds emails, not “other” stuff
