Have you looked into DIY versions (yes I know, project graveyard) or Chinese ones? Long ago before I had access to a “real” one, I got a BMC APAP w/ humidifier & oximeter (not needed for use) from Wish for maybe 350€, because the risk of toxic fumes felt worth it and it still works just fine, even if it smells plastic-y after non-use.
In a similar vein, fund a few events for local groups for the less well-to-do to go see a local band. Just get the money in circulation in a way that keeps it local, and does some good (for myself or others) without consuming too many natural respurces.
Agreed, that wasn’t my implication. I just didn’t know which to leave out. 😅 I like to think the less age-appropriate/more amusing aspect must be coming across a random middle-aged person that asks, wide-eyed and hesitant, “could I pet them?” while you’re just out for a walk. I like it. I visit classical concerts more than pop ones, but there it definitely isn’t automatic, but a light-hearted “artist’s choice” response to a genuinely enthusiastic crowd after the approx. 3rd round of applause. Not a given. My favourite is still when the soloist did a jazz encore and the audience swapped from “no applause even between movements” classical mode to “applaud good solos” jazz mode.
If I buy it used, it means someone is willing to pay that much for a used one, it’s practically an investment!
Camellia sinensis comes in two major natural varieties, C. sinensis v. sinensis and C. sinensis v. assamica. Other natural varieties (that I didn’t even know about before looking into it just now) are v. pubilimba, v. dehungensis, and v. madoensis. The related species Camelliia taliensis is also used to make tea, especially pu-erh.
In addition to these natural varieties, there is a huge variety of cultivars. And the terroir makes a difference. But I think that tea drinkers by and large like their tea to taste like tea.
tl;dr Camellia sinensis has both natural and bred varietals.
I think my induction cooktop has over-temperature protection in case all the water had evaporated. Nothing for the oven though. I love the Instant Pot (probably other tabletop pressure cookers too) for the timers & “keep warm” function.

How is “average lemmy user” defined? I probably know more about eg. tea than the typical/median user. But there may be a true tea expert here that pushes the average up by a lot.

People knowing when they die at the latest will probably mean more than it being 50. At some point after abt 45 life becomes either (finances allowing) a hedonistic spree, gracefully putting your affairs in order, and/or an anxious nightmare watching the hours tick by. Not sure if people will come together enough to demand a kind of pension to allow for a year or two of calm for that, but anyone that can, will take ot anyway.
People will focus on their health a little less when there’s no time for many lifestyle-related illnesses to manifest.
The speed of scientific development slows. People have less time to learn, experiment, and mentor the next generation.
