I don’t really follow X, Bluesky, Instagram, TikTok, etc. so I basically live under a rock. Sometimes I ask dumb questions to try to understand people a little better. Apologies if my questions inadvertently offend anyone. I mean no harm.

You have to agree with the hive mind or you get down voted into oblivion.
Isn’t Lemmy the same way though?
Less corporate, less centralized, open source tech. I don’t quite fit in here, but I guess I’m weird enough to stick around anyway 🙂

(Just asking because I often don’t understand downvotes on Lemmy)

4·22 days agoI’d be excited if I stumbled upon an artist that I like, and they’d accept some private payment method (maybe Monero or something) for their music in a lossless format. Like a digital equivalent to paying cash for a CD at a concert — no exchange of PII, no tracking, no subscriptions, no marketing bs, etc.
I suppose that applies to any digital content format. It’s a shame that privacy has become such a low priority.

3·3 days agoAre those just Swiss laws? I don’t run my Peergos instance there, so maybe I’m safe.
🤔 I guess I should still do some research though, to familiarize myself with the legal landscape of the region in which I run my instance.
Also, I wouldn’t worry too much about downvotes. I get them fairly regularly, and almost never understand why, lol. AFAICT, they don’t really seem to matter much on Lemmy (though maybe someone can correct me if I’m wrong about that).

I was able to pursue a career from my favorite hobby. It took a lot of hard work to get there without the usual academic qualifications (university/college degree), but once I finally got hired for a full-time position, it was a dream job for me. I would have done a lot of it for free if it didn’t cost money to live. I’m also very lucky that my hobby happens to pay well.
Since then, a bigger company acquired my employer. I still like my job (mostly), but I don’t love it yet. I’m required to delegate a lot of the work, which I used to love and take pride in, to AI. I’m gradually getting better at using AI effectively and efficiently, so maybe I can find joy in that, eventually.
