These are strange times indeed.

This election was so weird in so many ways, I think it will be some time before we fully understand what it all means.

It’s a weird situation. Like it or not, Polievre just achieved the highest Conservative vote share since the 1980s.

That he still lost is astonishing, and it’ll be a while before anyone can sort out the path forward.

But I suspect they’ll keep him around.

Yeah, they’ll probably just parachute him into an Alberta riding. We’re not rid of him yet.

A few scattered thoughts on this:

• The NDP are leaderless, and are therefore agendaless until they can get organized again.

• They’re also probably broke, and in no position to fight another election.

• While they certainly hold a good position in the new HoC, there’s bound to be some introspection about how that worked out for them last time.

It’s worth noting that in the months preceding the 1995 referendum, the “yes” movement was hovering around 37%. They managed to propel that to 49.42% result in the referendum itself.

Definitely not to be taken lightly.

That poll is cited in the piece, and the fact that separatist sentiments in AB and SK are roughly on par with QC (where it’s still treated as a serious threat) is kind of the central point.

Then we should be tracking down and firing everyone involved from all parties?

Yup.

In this case, I think there might be a case to be made.

“The prosecutor would be, I think, concerned … if the investigation was still going on behind the scenes, without them being looped in, while they’re trying to prosecute a case,” said Michael Arntfield, a criminologist and professor at Western University who worked for 16 years as a detective with the London Police Service in Ontario.

“If they say they can’t interview him, that to me sounds like they’ve taken direction either from the Crown or from superior officers to not potentially interfere with the prosecution.”

Sure, I just don’t find “everybody does it” to be a particularly compelling argument. Wrong is wrong.

Absolutely. It’s beyond me why someone would be against a hearing taking place, considering a “no” would be practically guaranteed in cases like these.

Carney said they’ve been “reassigned” within the campaign.

Not nearly enough.

Is it safe to say that casual use of the notwithstanding clause has been normalized to the point that there are no real consequences to invoking it any more?

Despite the mixed results last season, I am glad that RTD is putting at least a little more weight behind the arcs than his previous “recurring words in each episode” schtick.

We’ll always look ahead to the future if we get the chance to keep running. I’ve got ideas. “I think I’ll do that near [Season] 4 or 5.” And that’s always the way I’ve worked on things. So yes, I could promise you amazing stuff at the end of Season 4. There are things we’ve already mentioned that are going to bear fruit a long time into the future. So that’s just the fun of it. That’s the fun of Doctor Who. But, to say again, it’s the pit stops along the way.

That cat ain’t coming back - RTD has always been a rather bloodthirsty showrunner.

Couldn’t agree less - I think the 32nd century is a fantastic setting, especially for a show like this.

CBC is reporting this as fact, not an allegation - it’s safe to assume that they know exactly who these campaign workers are.

There are also decent reasons not to name them just yet - if they’re low-level staffers, it’s worth trying to get a comment from the Party first, and/or try to determine how far up the ladder this goes. No sense in scapegoating the grunts until the higher-ups are ID’d.

Great, it just became easier to dismiss legitimate criticism of the Conservatives as a false-flag operation.

Brilliant move.
