Regarding sexual assault… I once read an answer that was satisfying to me, about how lawyers who defend predators sleep at night. The person said they worked tirelessly to provide the predator the best defence possible and a lot of people demonised them for it. However, they still lost and because they did such a thorough job defending the predator, the predator had no, or at least fewer, grounds for appeal. So the conviction stuck. Had they provided a weak defence, they would have just passed the buck (or the pound, but I’ve never heard it that way) to the next jury, and then there’d be a chance they could be acquitted. And that would be worse.
Just saying. Maybe there’s a silver lining. Maybe there isn’t, but maybe there is. I guess it depends on if you see the glass half full, or half empty.
Even aside from that, it seems obvious to me that every person deserves as strong a defense as can be articulated in the legal framework they operate in. If you’re a Nazi who murdered someone in broad daylight while shouting “I love Adolf Hitler and am doing a hate crime right now!” into a camera then even the strongest defense isn’t going to help you. There’s nothing unethical about providing legal defense for that guy, you know, before you bury him alive or whatever.

the whole penitentiary system is fucked, we often have no choice but to depend on it and hope that things work out. For that reason I will never think “we need prosecutors,” I would rather imagine a future where justice is actually carried out that doesnt involve a slavery prison solution.

That’s not what a prosecutor does, that’s the judge and the jury, the prosecutor is just there to argue “they’re guilty.” I would not ever have victims lead anything in court because that would be an unimaginable burden for the vast majority and they probably wouldn’t do a very good job compared to someone whose job it is to argue legal shit all day (you know how it’s widely seen as an incredibly stupid move to represent yourself in court even if you’re a lawyer)
