Tbh i was looking forward to engaging in some debate with them.

did they break any actual rules or is it just because they’re MAGA?

Edit: Before you angrily comment below (as so many have done so far) please keep in mind that this is a feddit.uk meta community and i am specifically asking the question to feddit.uk mods/admins and inviting discussion from feddit.uk users.

if you are not a feddit.uk user then this entire conversation DOES NOT AFFECT YOU. I have yet to hear from anyone who actually is a feddit.uk user Admin response here

The whole point of the fediverse is to be able to engage with people from other instances from your home instance. We don’t block the other end of the spectrum, grad and hexbear remain available from this instance despite them advocating for various past and present authoritarian regimes and conductors of crimes against humanity.

I wear my badges from them with pride

If you want to block the whole instance you’re welcome to, from your own account.

Don’t make my decisions for me, I’ll talk to whomever i want to, and i should be able to do so from my home instance, as the Fediverse was designed to do

nobody is stopping you from talking to nazis. you can talk to nazis if you want to. you just cant use this platform federated network to talk to nazis. you need to go out of your way to talk to nazis here, by design.

When you say “this platform” what exactly do you mean? if i join maga.place i’m still on lemmy

You realize you are commenting on a thread made by a feddit.uk user in a feddit.uk meta community addressed to the mods and other users on feddit.uk?___

Don’t make my decisions for me

      Literally no one is…

If you dont like it, go make an account on maga.place itself?

Why should everyone else have to deal with fascists because you want them around?

And literally no one was talking about, and especially not defending hexbear. They’re not “the other end of the spectrum” they’re all rightwing authoritarians, they just tell different lies to people about it.

Don’t make my decisions for me, I’ll talk to whomever i want to, and i should be able to do so from my home instance, as the Fediverse was designed to do

      From what you’re saying…

Every instance would have to federate with everyone…

You might find an instance that wants to do that. Or you can make your own and beg instances to federate with you I do t think you’ll get 100% tho

It seems you’re so upset because you don’t understand how this works or what it’s for

        Literally no one is…

Apart from whoever added maga.place to the defed list for feddit.uk (for the record, i’m not asserting that that was the wrong decision, just querying the reason behind it)

If you do t like it, go make an account on maga.place itself?

        1. i shouldn’t have to
        2. for the same reason i left lemmy.ml, i am less subject to their (almost certainly shitty) moderation policies from a remote instance than i am from theirs

Why should everyone else have to deal with fascists because you want them around?

You don’t have to. you have it within your power to block communities and instances in your account settings.

From what you’re saying… Every instance would have to federate with everyone…

yes, this is how lemmy works.

Or you can make your own and beg instances to federate with you I do t think you’ll get 100% tho

by default (as i understand it) everyone is federated. instance admins have to manually defederate if they want to. hence this post from me, a feddit.uk user asking the mods/admins in a feddit.uk meta community why they chose to make that decision.

          as i understand it

Like many things it seems, you’re misunderstanding this…

If you’re nicer, and asked questions, someone else might answer them, and you’ll learn something

I have seen nothing to suggest this. please feel free to prove me wrong on that point

If you’re nicer, and asked questions

Please point out where i have been anything less than civil with anyone in the responses to my post

I did ask questions; this post was a question to the admins of my instance in a local community on my instance. It is of no concern to anyone who isn’t a feddit.uk user

If you think the ‘point’ of the Fediverse is for every server to federate with every server, no exceptions, then let me ask you a Socratic question here: Why do you think defederation exists? This is a feature that is part of the Fediverse, and it serves an important purpose.

If you think the ‘point’ of the Fediverse is for every server to federate with every server, no exceptions

At no point did i say that. De-federation should be only used where severe disruption is being caused by an instance, there are technical incompatibilities, or there is a danger of illegal content being federated across.

feddit.uk has always had a light hand when it comes to censorship, which is one of the reasons i came here after lemmy.ml

Sounds like you should look for a server that is more closely aligned with your interests. That too is a feature of the Fediverse, rather than expecting every server to do things your way.

I am not expecting every server to do things my way, i am trying to foment a discussion with other members of my instance about a top level moderation decision and presenting my viewpoint alongside that. As a somewhat regular contributor to the running costs of this instance i would like to see at least some community discussion before a decision is taken to take the drastic step of de-federation for idealistic reasons

Instead i have been dogpiled by emotional reactions and downvotes from people from other instances who have exactly zero stake in the argument since internal feddit.uk moderation decisions do not affect other instances. it’s frankly astounding that i managed to get an admin response with how buried this post got

You asked why a server would defederate, you got answers, and then you got very upset that they weren’t the answers you wanted to hear.
