Hi everyone! Welcome to the first monthly Hobbies thread, where you’re free to post whatever you want that might be hobby related where we can:

  • Share in-progress projects
  • Share old/finished projects
  • Ask for advice, input, feedback, motivation, or suggestions
  • Info dump on your fave hobbies
  • Make community requests/suggestions
  • Pine over projects you haven’t done yet, or those projects that never seem to be finished

And whatever else hobby-related!

I’ll try to make sure a new thread is up by the first Friday of each month going forward. I hope every level of hobbyist will join in; we all start somewhere and perfection is never a requirement.

Hope you have a happy hobby October!

Last time posted my most recent amigurumi crochet plush so thought I’d expand on that a little. It’s my current hobby, which I’m a total beginner at but it satifies a lot of my ND alphabet and is easier physically and monetarily for me to do. I have a couple of unfinished animals that I have lying around I hope I can finish soon, and a bunch of patterns for various things to try once I’m able to get the materials I need. Most of the finished projects I’ve done so far are animals with thick thread and a size 5 or 1.70mm crochet hook. I’ve only completed no-sew or low-sew projects that are simpler and more beginner friendly. The majority of patterns I’ve used I found on Etsy or YouTube.

The word amigurumi is a combination of two Japanese words: “ami”, meaning crocheted or knitted, and “nuigurumi” meaning stuffed doll. You can make these stuffed toys in any size you want, but they’re usually small and crocheted in lightweight yarns. The characters usually have exaggerated or cartoon-like features with larger heads and less anatomical accuracy.

I might post pics later if I have time!

Sadly I haven’t done anything hobby-related in a month. Finished assembling 5 out of 24 Eldar minis I picked up a while ago, but got tired of dealing with bendy thin parts and resin dust from cleanup and haven’t gotten back to it. No painting either because my desk is in resin mode and I can’t be asked to fully clean it up knowing that I’m going to get back to it in a while. Maybe I will once I finish some of the actual units (I’m at 3/5 and 2/3, respectively, so that’s more achievable).

In sum: getting recast Shining Spears were a mistake (or so I say until I look at the GW’s prices).

While I haven’t made much progress over the last few months, a couple of days ago I continued sowing my newest plush animal, a dragon with cute little wings and legs. It will need an extensive overhaul still, as there’s some proportions that don’t fit at all, but it’s currently looking at me in its unfinished state and seems content to be half-done. I hope to post a picture of it once I get around to it again. Care-Comrade
