Imperialism doesn’t neccesarily mean conquest and wars. As a capitalist country they participate in the international global market, plus they’re aided by Russia and China which are imperialist countries, just as they were aided by the USSR before

I’ve run into these before! “Holy Soviet Russia” nut jobs are fun. You wouldn’t think leftism and the Russian Orthodox Church go together, but Western leftists do very strange things.

My point exactly. I wouldn’t trust a “Holy Soviet Russia” crank with so much as a Marxist book club or a church social committee or fundraiser, but an hour or two with an utterly powerless one in some parish hall at some interchurch thing would be kinda fun. Or at least, more fun than the people I usually meet after mass at Mum’s Anglican church at Christmas and at her mum’s Catholic church at Easter.

I mean, yes. These guys are definitely some of the less… baseless… cranks I’ve run into. The Russian Revolution was the first of its kind, and still damned impressive today even with more context of revolutions that came after and the USSR’s existence as part of a larger socialist world. So, yeah. I can see how a very religious person may place at least some credit on a higher power guiding things in the peoples’ favour, and, well, with the Orthodox tendencies towards this kind of religious crankery in the first place, and the way leftists all tend to get about the USSR… I can see the logic, even if I don’t believe two words of it, at least more so than most “leftist” cranks I’ve run into.
