Incidentally, this is considered average (median, not mean which falsely weights higher earners) income in the US according to the figures at https://lisep.org/ (annualized has been selected in these images):

I’m wondering whether the figures for degrees also have some representation of skew towards higher earners who tend to have them.

        • yeah, I’m on that advanced degree train, but haven’t arrived at the money station. I would say I am probably above average income for my age in similar Cost of Living Areas, but below average for my education in the same. I’m also a tightwad and a scrapper, so I feel like I ball now because I’ve been in far shittier circumstances.

i have experienced my MSc work to let me out-compete BSc havers for desirable jobs in the public sector and I expect it will probably help me promote up over time so long as I handle my actual shit in the mean time. so, no regrets.

ever since I got it, I have been trying to get an honorific associated for the MS/MA, the way PhDs get “doctor”. I was thinking “Maestro”, but so far it hasn’t caught on.

          • I’m looking to get a PhD because I don’t think my mix of trauma and neuro divergence makes it possible to do meaningful work in many other industries/positions. I have learned to live with little, and I don’t really mind not having a super high salary, as long as I have s relatively healthy lifestyle.

Bro, we don’t even expect to have jobs at all.

Besides. When are we going to talk about how business owners expect gen Z grads to all be Ivy League Valedictorians with years of experience…and still want to flip burgers for their picky ass for minimum wage?

I don’t want to hear shit about dunking on gen Z when we’re also so apparently awesome that you can graduate with a degree and STILL be “unqualified” for internships.

This is almost carbon copy of the experience Millennials went through coming out of college, largely because it’s the exact same out-of-touch Boomers who are still perched on the upper rungs of ladders punching down.

Boomers have completely fucked 3 successive generations of Americans, and they absolutely deserve all the vitriol that comes their way.

any analysis of income in the US is kinda butt cheeks without geography / cost of living (aka social reproduction) brought in.

when 33-50% of what most people deposit goes right back out just so they can have somewhere behind a locked door to set their shit down at night and wash their ass… there’s enough variability in what they actually make after baseline shelter, food, healthcare, required transport, and debt servicing for the amount on the paycheck to be obscured what’s going on.

tbh us millenials didn’t have much of an attention span in high school. We were all hornyposting via notes passed between each other (since not everyone had a cell phone) and had to have books with bright, colorful pictures in them. Good luck getting us to read something with black and white diagrams or just nothing but text.

My school didn’t have laptops. Any room with multiple computers we would install Bolo on since it was never blocked by the filter/parental controls. Except the actual computer lab because our programming teacher knew about emulators and also played Bolo when it was still new.

If minimum wage kept up with productivity, cost of living, and corporate greed it would be over $100 per hour, over $200,000 per year for a 40 hour per week job. Gen Z needs to raise their expectations.

Because they are unable to live up to the expectations patriarchal society sets on us and rather than realize the society is bullshit, double down on it and decide it’s other peoples fault.

this is why i am putting off public transition. i have like 5 zoomer men under my wing that look up to me as what they see, which is an elder millennial chad guy who makes leftist thought appealing and masculine as well as push collective ethics into their heads

i was their boss at first, now just another co-worker and they respect me as that person, even if it’s just an act.

kind of sucks but i made this call because of this crisis

They lose the most status under current social changes and are therefore a vulnerable demographic for reactionary propaganda. And there’s plenty of reactionary propaganda for them to plug into and very little focused on them that runs counter to it, let alone gets promoted by social media companies. Reactionary forces are just doing good marketing, basically. It’s also not like everyone else is getting a great political education or has coherent beliefs in liberation or humanism, they just aren’t the status gaining group on which this propaganda works, they’re the groups scapegoated by reaction and when alienated will naturally oppose their bullies.

Having the plague for a few years during a formative time in their lives and having a ton of time to get sucked into YouTube rabbit holes that invariably start recommending conservative content had a big part to play.

Its not accidental. The money and effort spent in the last 10 years to make young men go ultra right wing is HUGE. Like billions of dollars. A lot of social media sites like youtube have entirely changed theor algorithms so ig you look at any video game content your gonna get reccomended literal nazi shit.

Yeah I’m aware it’s an intentional effort that’s easily reproducible when someone makes a fresh account and sees how quickly they start getting clips with Andrew Tate or Asmongold saying having empathy is weakness.

I literally looked up a video the other day to see if my performance issues in oblivion remaster (which i pirated cuz some awesome people cracked it like instantly) were just a linux thing, and it seems like a normal video talking about bad performance then half way thru they start throwing out anti-trans dog whistles. Putting up screen shots of trans characters in a game and being like “But this game has other issues”.

So of course i switch off the video dislike it and am like wtf. Click on another similar video and NOT ONLY is it also anti-trans but the script is WORD FOR WORD the same as the last video. Like they were both given the same script to make a video with. Now could one of them have just copied the others video? I guess. But it makes me think its like the whole sinclair broadcasting thing where all the local news anchors say the same stuff cuz they answer to the same parent company.

It’s specifically young men that are becoming more right wing. I heard some poll numbers last week since Trump’s approval ratings are tanking. Controlling for male vs female, Gen Z has the biggest gap with 45% of men supporting Trump and 24% of women doing the same in the 18-29 age bracket.

Tbh the COVID shutdown had serious reverberations through the culture that are going to be with us for the rest of our lives. People shouldn’t have been exposed to that much internet.

What shutdown? Do you mean the mass infection events that were constantly happening in bars through 2020 and 2021 followed by the liberal capitulation and peeling off of the already rarely followed public health advice?

Most countries did try to prevent the plague slightly more than the US did. The “shutdown” was probably more about schools being closed for a few weeks/months and young men getting turned insane by youtube propaganda / anti-woke grifters.
