I remember seeing a video of Korean pedestrians just walking around last year on reddit and all the comments were basically “look how boring and drab this is. These people must be miserable”. The entire time I was thinking how nice it must be to have your basic needs met and not blasted with advertising on every single surface in a concrete hellscape that is any random ass city in the west.

Like advertising bullshit in the states literally triggers my anxiety at times.

When I was in Seoul some time ago, there was a moment where I got a headache and just felt mentally drained with the sheer amount of ads shown everywhere. Thankfully visiting countrysides outside of Seoul helped and that was more interesting, but that made me realize how nice it must be not to see ads everywhere you go like what we see with pictures of Pyongyang and so on.

“That building with the flame decal on it is the only building in the country allowed to have a fireplace and in winter thousands of people freeze to death outside waiting for their chance to warm their hands in front of it. North Korea doesn’t actually have any firewood though, so they just have a picture of a fire and have to pretend and if they admit that it isn’t real and isn’t actually warm they are shot to death and put in prison.” yeonmi-park

the building is heated by people rubbing their hands and blowing on them.

the jacuzzi in the hot spring spa was originally powered by kimchi and soybean enhanced tooting, but since the only food now is rats, the jacuzzi is now powered by kindergardeners squatting until their mouths are below the water level and going blublublublu
