I’d keep structural engineering. For where to go, somewhere with an expanding metro system.
Mechanical Engineering. Germany. Because it would be my dream to work as a roller coaster engineer, haha.
Italy and mechanical engineering. I know that Italy has its own issues with young people leaving for better opportunities elsewhere. But every single place I have worked or vacationed in Italy has been more interesting and usually beautiful compared to where I am now.
Also, mechanical engineering just seems like there are lots of career paths to choose from. With some networking and determination, I think it could be a cool combination. Civil engineering or mine engineering would be cool in Italy too, can you imagine working at one of those marble quarries in Tuscany?
All of the places listed so far sound cool and I could feasibly relocate IRL. At the moment I don’t want to live too far from my aging parents though. They are in their mid-70s and might need me soon.
Victoria, Australia. I’ve always been weirdly drawn to Australia and I couldn’t tell you exactly why, but I’d love to be there! It’s one of the cooler parts of Australia too!
The Netherlands. Amsterdam seems really nice.
UK
Probably be an IT Director.
I’d start over in New Zealand but take the same degree.
What’s the same degree?
Human services.
I would like to try out being a some short of cop in Sweden or Germany. I’m not 100% sure if this would be my answer if someone actually offered me this, but it would be interesting to see.
Why
Norway. I have distant relatives there. I’ve met them there a couple of times. I love the country.
I’d do nursing. I’m already close to that anyway and they usually make a bit more $$.
Probably Norway, Finland, or Sweden. At the risk of potentially offending all Scandinavians, in terms of the things I personally care about, all three countries can be considered as essentially the same. They all check pretty much all of my boxes. They all have ideal (meaning Arctic or subarctic) weather, they’re in a particularly beautiful part of the world, politically and socially they generally align well with my values, hiking and other outdoor activities are readily available, and while it’s not the primary language, English is broadly spoken to a high degree of fluency in all three countries. Meaning I wouldn’t have to struggle to communicate while trying to learn the local language.
In terms of a degree, I don’t currently have one, but I generally enjoy the field I currently work in, so I’d probably go for either a general computer science degree or something more focused on system administration. Possibly with a minor involving some electrical engineering courses.
Purely by feelings? Synthetik Biology. Super cool subject. Engineering, but your computers live. Sadly, anything Bio-related basically needs a PhD and top grades for a job. So I guess I’ll stick with the lightning imbued rocks for now.
In my experience you get PhD not by being super intelligente but for being patient and stress resilient. And for both of them you need curiousity and enthusiasm in the field. A lot. Dont know for other countries but here in germany my PhD with medium Grades was good enough to get a lot of Jobs AS long as i let them See a glimpse of my Enthusiasmus for science.
What field are you in, if I may ask? I mean, the ship has probably sailed, I’m well set into EE/IT by now. Maybe med-tech, who knows. Sometimes it’s cool to hang out with the actually smart people in the canteen.
And where in the world would you like to have that employment?
Probably canada beause I like toronto because you can have your dog on busses and trains. for degree I guess I would go math with some minors and likely work in tech given the way things are nowadays.
You can take your cats too! And if you have a monkey, you can take it to IKEA!
