The following Democrats [and one independent] voted to advance the Republican continuing resolution, which was backed by President Donald Trump:
- Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer
- Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania
- Senator Catherine Cortez Masto of Nevada
- Senator Brian Schatz of Hawaii
- Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois
- Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of New York
- Senator Gary Peters of Michigan
- Senator Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire
- Senator Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire
- Senator Angus King of Maine, an independent who frequently caucuses with Democrats
I always forget about Angus King… How does that dude always fly under the radar?
I’m a Mainer and will be sure to call his office. It’s so pathetic the Democrats and King dropped our only leverage for free. When it’s the Republicans trump they always pull a stunt regarding funding the government.
Most of these Senators have a net worth of tens or hundreds of millions of dollars. They love Trump. He is cutting their taxes. (but not yours)
Traitors. Get rid of all of them.
Primary everyone on this list.
This is exactly what the right wing has done over a couple decades and it’s worked fine for them. People either lost their seats or got so scared of the constant opposition they fell in line.
Cuck Schumer primary assfuck him immediately
This was the only bit of leverage democrats had, the future of US democracy now lies with the judiciary, any future elections will be a farce.
The judiciary that is irreparably compromised already?
unfortunately he cant be removed till the end of his term, but he can be removed as senate minority leader, immediately, and removed from all his committees. Lets see if the dems have the stones to do that. If they dont, they are all complicit.
They’ll get riiiiight on that
not
Call your senator and ask them to remove him
Many Democrat peers are urging AOC to do just that.
How would she be able to do that?
It’s as complicated as filing two short forms with the FEC and raising a minimum of $5,000 specifically for a senate campaign.
So to answer your question, she would file 2 forms with the FEC + have someone give her $5k.
She can run for Schumer’s seat. She lives in NY, she’s been a citizen for over 9 years, and she’s over 30 years old. Those are the qualifications.
Schumer isn’t up for re-election.
He will be eventually. That’s the process to primary him.
His current term ends on January 3, 2029.
Today is March 14, 2025.
As a very dumb person, is what the Dems that voted for this said wrong? Is there a chance that Asshat Trump and his Billionaire Butt Buddy would go on an unchecked rampage without Congress in session? Or is that just bull crap? I don’t know enough about how everything works when congress shuts down.
No, that is the flimsiest of excuses. First of all, how could the presidents rampage more beyond what has already transpired? Secondly, republicans love to throw tantrums and shut down the govt all the time. This wouldn’t be much different except it would show the dems are actually willing to fight with the tools they have. Unfortunately, Schumer’s maneuver shows they are not. It’s beyond pathetic.
Schumer, the fuck dude?
I don’t care if it’s cloture or the actual bill itself…
There should be zero Dems voting “yes” on any-fucking-thing these MAGAt bastards want.
Blatant and complete obstruction is the only way to play this hand for the foreseeable future.
Those Dems that do vote yes… 🖕 🖕 🖕 🖕 🖕
Cloture vote required 60 for passage, final passage is only a majority. Cloture is literally the only time the minority party can assert itself, and they just gave it up.
The cloture vote required 60 senators. That was the only chance for Democrats to stop this bill. He (and the others) then voted no, so they could say he voted against the bill, but they knew damn well that only in the cloture vote they actually could stop it.
Hawaii has been sucking recently
They also gave us Tulsi Gabbard.
They really Schatz the bed
Was this the swamp that needed draining?
Jokes aside, I can’t see why a swamp would need draining beyond the needs of expanding suburban sprawl. Leave the wonderfully diverse ecosystems be, to flourish and rot in peace.
This is why we need a real party of the left rather than fascists and fascist-lites. Because when push comes to shove the fascist-lites will always side with the fascists and betray the common man
Agreed, the Dems are a lost cause and this is yet another time they’ve proven it.
Holy shit did murica ever die with a whimper. Maybe not even a whimper, but I don’t what’s less
Unpopular opinion: Republicans/Maga want to destroy the public sector. Why give the Republicans what they want? The dems stand for the public sector. Fight the Republicans but please use other means than shutting down a sector that is already under attack of Maga.
The dems stand for the public sector.
Do they?
If the Republicans wanted that they’d have done it.
The Republicans control both houses. If they can’t get a CR passed by themselves, they need to make significant compromises to pass a bipartisan bill, which they haven’t done. That’s basic politics and it’s been the case for hundreds of years.
Acting like this is the Democrats fault is nonsense. If the government can’t pay the bills the people of the country need to finally see the incompetence and disdain for the American people that this administration has.
As for the public sector workers, if you think this will save them you’re completely mistaken. This buys them weeks or a couple of months at most. Maybe a government shut down will remind the people what public servants do for them so they can start opposing this butchery of the government.
Trump could have just vetoed the spending bill when it came to his desk. He didn’t need the Democrats to bow he just wanted to see if they would.
And when they sabotage the primaries to keep their opponents from taking the nominations, you liberals will still vote for them because they’re somehow a lesser evil despite fully cooperating with the greater evil.
Collaborators will not be forgiven.
Seems like he did it, because he has a very important book tour https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2025/3/14/2310308/-Schumer-s-Book-Tour
And fighting for us would mess up his schedule.
Do you have any info on these traitors stopping in Illinois? I’d like to pay them a visit.
Well I already knew that Durbin is a shithead, but at least we still have Duckworth here in IL.
EDIT: I was wrong. The minimum seems to have been 7 or 8.
Why are the exactly ten, the minimum number required to advance the vote? Are you sure? It was 62-48 I think they only needed 60.
Also freaking Rand Paul voted no.
