Saw on the patient board today we got a new GHO!

It’s nasty and raining, but I couldn’t wait to see what it looked like, and it’s this sweet little young one. It’s very fiery, poofing up at me, and snapping his beak telling me to back it up already. ☺️

Didn’t get to find out why it’s here, but I’m always excited to see we’ve got a new owl, and I’m glad this one is looking good and outdoors, so I hope it’s on the mend.

Took this photo of Elliot too, as I was looking where the new one was at.

Here are both right off my phone without edits.

I thought this pic of Elliot was really nice, I didn’t think I did very much at all to edit it.

The new guy was all the way back in the flight enclosure and I just tried to clear it up a bit, but it’s probably just way over zoomed.

Yeah it’s just your phone with excessive zoom screwing it up. My friend’s pixel does the same thing while my iphone 16 doesn’t. I max out at 10x zoom. He can do 20.

Aww mine only does 8x and still looks like that. 😅

I think my Pixel 7 takes pretty decent pics, but I get they look crappy when I throw my amateur phone pics up against all these other things I post full of pro pics from people with real gear and skill.

I just want to share with you guys some moments of my personal adventures. The photos are more of a “pics or it didn’t happen” than something to wow you.

That’s fair and wonderful of you to share these photos. It’s more of a uncanny valley? sort of thing with the heavily denoised photos. It sticks out like a sore thumb unfortunately and you can’t do much about it unless you use some sort of third party camera app.

Edit: I see now, the stock pixel 7 has no telephoto lens at all while I have a telephoto lens. My friend might have a pro, I’ll ask him.

yeah, also there are some phones that automatically use AI to upscale/denoise photos, so it could also be that

I have no clue what all my phone does, but the photo of the adult was at a much more reasonable distance for a phone pic, and I was kinda proud how well it came out all considered.

The baby is at the far end of a longer flight pen, and it was raining steadily and taken at full digital zoom and then cropped again so it was decently mangled visually, but I just wanted to show we had a new patient. This one seemed very healthy, so I didn’t know if it’d be there by my next shift so I quick took a pic and got out of the rain.

So they’re both “real,” just not very good photos, especially compared to what we normally get to see here.
