Giving into a straw man argument such as their other dramas somehow devalue what’s going on now, only plays into the French propaganda campaign.

Not as bad a taste as the French government is giving me.
If its do I trust GOS or a confirmed pro chat control governments side of the story, its an easy choice.

Don’t bring data you are not ok with a foreign government forcing you to handover. That’s the simplest solution.
Back all your important data up, then wipe your phone before you go. Same with the laptop. You can’t be coerced into giving something you don’t have.
Threat modeling is important. If your just an average Joe being a tourist it is highly unlikely the Chinese government is going to take your devices to search.

This is not feasible. You are not going to become an expert in mobile development on a timeline that makes any sense. Even if you did its still a massive under taking to port an end of life phone to work with a version of an OS that was never built to work with that phone, that’s assuming its possible.
Just buy a used pixel 7a and start learning to develop apps on that.

Based on basic security principles. There is not a real security expert out there that would ever tell you to not update. Leaving a backdoor in your network as a “honeypot” is an absolutely awful idea.
You are also conflating security updates with feature updates. Please take a look at the different terminology.
Anyway if you really hate all the bloat of Windows there is a wide variety of other operating systems to choose from that also offer security updates.

It is pretty much always more dangerous to not update. The internet is an extremely hostile environment (from a security perspective). You really should avoid having devices that are not updated or EOL connected to it.

It seems like you didn’t really read what’s going on as the complaints / allegations made by GOS are far more then an issue with a newspaper article.

I do…
Owner - these are the apps I daily drive.
Work - all work stuff lives here.
Google - apps that require the playstore.
I thought about using my owner profile as a hub for app stores and then a 2nd profile as my main profile but I found the 2nd profiles a bit unreliable in terms of receiving calls and texts.

I think if people look past the clickbait title and thumbnail the video is actually a positive for GOS

I can’t imagine Google is losing sleep over this being an issue for GOS users. If anything I’d assume anything that could get people to switch back to stock is what they want.

One downside for Mint is RCS doesn’t work properly with T-Mobile carriers as they require more privileged access. GOS has talked about maybe providing a toggle to allow this like they do with Android Auto.

But GOS has already said its going to be a flagship phone that is around the same price point as the pixel…

"The devices will be priced similarly to Pixels. "

Does what brand they end up with really matter? The phone is going to meet the specs regardless…

There is a wide variety of quality with these recommendations / suggestions.
For example its still lists calyxos which at the moment is dead and a site like privacytools which is basically an SEO farm.
Generally people should avoid lists that do not provide any sort of criteria / transparency for whats on the list, regardless of the intention.
I have the rare ability to not attach my career to my self worth. This makes it much easier for me to be happy regardless of what I do to get paid.
Honestly it sounds like you might be making things more difficult then they need to be. Does your threat model actually require you to take the actions you are taking?
That doesn’t sound better then the plans in the US. I currently get unlimited data for $15/month.

You can be concerned about a possible future issue and a current issue at the same time. To dismiss a possible issue because you are already concerned with something else seems silly. Maybe I’m misunderstanding what your getting at.
Mullvad Browser is literally based on Firefox ESR. Which they clearly state.
For example: “Mullvad Browser 14.0, based on Firefox ESR 128”
