  • Dive Brief:

    • California lawmakers approved a sweeping energy package at the end of the legislative session that does not include funding to continue two grid reliability programs, including a virtual power plant advocates believe is the largest in the world.
    • Earlier this year, the state faced a $12 billion budget shortfall, and the two programs were in limbo for months as legislators negotiated down to the wire. The bills awaiting Gov. Gavin Newsom’s signature after the session closed Saturday include proposals aimed at bringing down energy costs, expanding the Western grid and codifying virtual power plants in longterm planning.
    • Advocates say gutting the Demand Side Grid Support and Distributed Electricity Backup Assets programs threatens to undermine the state’s progress toward a more resilient grid that can respond to system stress by calling on batteries, electric vehicles, rooftop solar panels, smart thermostats and other energy resources that are increasingly common in homes, businesses and institutions.

  • Soooooo, hopefully it is still relevant to anyone, since I just found this post and actually have something :D What I would do (and probably will in the future, since I have a setting idea that would involve this), is to take a look at the special rules that exist right now for not-exactly-human player entities: ghosts, hulls and vampires.
I am personally looking at hulls, and how having a different hull size changes starting features, but also the way vampire feeding works… Hope this helps and can’t wait to hear about what you came up with, since the post is two years old hahaha 😅

  • Hi!

because it’s how you show people “you don’t need to subject yourself to the whims of a Nazi billionaire or the greedy pigboy aping him”.

I still think it’s better done on the case-by-case, and instance basis, as mentioned, Don’t talk about fediverse was realy meant as a provocation (and it’s working :P), I just think we would do better shifting the topic of conversation from technicals and infrastructure and apis to communities and content, because to be honest I believe it is already here.

I think it’s important to be aware of a few options, and be able to answer questions about apps, but I fully agree we shouldn’t advertise the Fediverse based on apps. Specially since you can always check the content without one, even from a phone.

💯 Absolutely. Apps are amazing, but people don’t want the app because it is shiny, but because of what it can give them. Community, topics, ‘content’.

people eventually migrate from the general purpose instances to more specific ones, as they find their own homes here.

I believe it is already happening, honestly, and I love it!
