  • Sure, I’m having a good time with it. It’s still on sale for 20-something € on steam (or you can just pirate it and it’s on sale for 0€, wow!!)

I’ve only been playing in the free-build sandbox edit mode (Sandbox mode on the main menu and then Edit property instead of Play when you load a save, you have infinite everything and can noclip). I bought the game just for the free-build mode in the first place. I don’t think they even had that in the first game. I haven’t actually played the “real” game/campaign yet, where I guess you kind of earn cash money by cleaning and fixing up existing houses? idk, that just sounds like work.

Some observations I’ve had so far:

    • Performance seems good. It’s not very demanding on low settings, but can get pretty heavy if you turn on global illumination and stuff.
    • The controls for moving stuff around can be a bit cumbersome. No keybind for swapping back and forth between move and rotate and toggling snap to grid so you have to click the buttons every god damn time.
    • The selection of furniture isn’t exactly enormous. Still good enough to get the general vibe right most of the time, but sometimes you have to stack two identical closets on top of each other and clip them together a bit to get the right height and stuff like that. There’s an object called “Cube” that you can scale and rotate and paint however you want to kind of manually make stuff, I’ve used it a lot to make e.g. legs for a floor cabinet to give it some height and to make handrails for my staircases because there weren’t any suitable ones in the game.
    • It doesn’t support any custom content like furniture and wallpaper yet, only custom pictures. Weird, since the first game had it. Apparently this is on the developers’ roadmap for 2 as well.

  • Finland news: Business lobby proposes cutting public holidays to fund defence spending

The bougies want to make the public holidays of Ephiphany day and Ascension day always be on a weekend, in order to leech more capital from the working class under the convenient guise of paying for NATO’s defence demands. EK, the main finance ghoul lobby in finland, has also been pushing for fewer public holidays for ages, but literally no one has supported it. Now they finally have a crisis to exploit. Personally I think this is likely to go through with little resistance, because, you know, the russians. The unions and the left party might release a strongly worded letter or two, but likely do nothing about it, since they broadly support NATO’s extortion.

For context, Epiphany and Ascension can fall on a weekday (which is obviously based), for example this year epiphany fell on a monday (3 day weekend lfg) and ascension on a thursday (take friday off = 4 day weekend lfg). Idk and idgaf what the original meaning of the holiday is, a free day is a free day.

How do you say finland in maoist standard english btw? I can’t figure it out.

  • My partner has been pouring their heart and soul into their company and work for the past 5 years, and it’s been going well enough for them to live comfortably off until now. It’s come to the point where AI has completely fucked the entire industry for the forseeable future. Their main client, which I assume is a pretty large company, recently announced that they will go full AI for this particular kind of work, and their subcontractors (i.e. my partner) will from now on work mainly as glorified post-editors for their AI’s excrement, of course for a fraction of their previous pay. I’m assuming they’re trying to smoke out all the humans from their workforce to pump up the next quarter’s results, and I’m fairly confident that it will bite them in the ass within a few years tops. But a few years is still a long ass time to work for peanuts with dubious job security…

Economically it’s not even that big of a problem for us, we can manage fine on my salary alone, but the worst part is that my partner is super depressed and exhausted over all of this shit. It’s gotta be pretty god damn rough to have to walk away from something you’ve been working hard at for so long because it’s turned into a complete dead end by corporate bullshit. But the fact of the matter is that the pay is just too fucking ass. Yeah yeah follow your passion and all that, but this shit is simply unsustainable. They’re working longer hours than I do for like a third of my monthly salary at this point. “Just getting another job” isn’t exactly a realistic option either given the current job market. I guess the best idea is to wait out the AI bubble and get back into it once the piggies realise that humans are kinda alright for this kind of creative work after all. What a bullshit situation, fuck AI and every dumbass idiot C-whatever-O that buys into the hype.

  • Yeah we have something like this as well in finland. Usually you get 2 or 2,5 days PTO per month worked (2 for the first year of employment, then 2,5 for every subsequent year = 24 to 30 days PTO per year). Then you also get vacation pay, which is a bonus that is usually equal to 50% of your average monthly salary. The extra vacation pay can then be “traded in” for another 5 or 6 PTO days. So it’s not exactly a pay reduction, more like a bonus that can be cashed out either in money or time off, or some combination of both. It varies depending on collective agreement, afaik not every sector’s collective agreement has that trading thing.

Fun fact: Vacation pay, or lomaraha (lit. vacation money), used to be called lomaltapaluuraha (return-from-vacation-money), and you would only get it if you returned to the same workplace after your vacation. The purpose was to entice workers to come back to their old workplace after their vacation, instead of just taking the time to look for a new job and fuck off somewhere else. I guess that used to be a problem?

  • My knees have been kinda fucked since I was a teen because of some genetic bullshit. I never really injured them proper, but it’s been at a point where I could barely walk stairs without severe pain, even when I was young enough to be invulnerable.

I was like 30 when I finally stopped being a fucking idiot and started taking my shit seriously enough to do something about it. It took maybe a couple of years of strength training (1x a week for the first year, then 2-3x a week, lots of front & back squats, knee extensions, romanian deadlifts & other deadlift variations, etc) to build enough muscle to almost entirely get rid of the knee pain in my daily life. My knees are probably still kind of fucked underneath all the muscle, can’t really do anything to actually “fix” them at this point. I just gotta make sure to keep going to the gym.
