So sorry to hear about your wife. Hoping for all the best in her recovery. I’m a firm believer you got to do what is best for your family, especially the kids.

It’s unbelievable difficult when they have you at the throats financially. I don’t think you fully understand this until you in the middle of it. Being the primary provider for my daughter, I have basically two options. One is to work on a way out so she can have a better life (current plan) OR to risk that she will be an orphan by actively going against the government as everyone outside of US expects. If you have your own children, take a minute to really think if you okay with your child becoming an orphan or homeless, because that’s the reality here. Even posting this risks my employment, as freedom of speech is long gone. This is just my opinion, and does not reflect the opinion of my employer.

We had no direct family help and our little one was the same for 12 weeks. We ended up finding a rhythm of three hour shifts overnight. It tremendously helped that I had paternal leave for 14 weeks, so I really hope you or your partner have something similar. It turned out that she was full of gas because of issues with breastfeeding, so we switched to formula. Couple weeks later she slept through the night like a champ.

A big motto we adopted during the time is: “I got to take care of myself, so I can take care of her”. So alternating sleeping times was the biggest benefit, since sleep deprivation was a hellscape.

I could never hate my daughter (3 y.o). Does it get frustrating that she purposely tests boundaries every second and malicious compliance is her middle name? Sure! However, the unconditional love is the best feeling in itself. Especially days like yesterday when I only saw her for 15 min, due to work, and we cuddled and read bedtime stories.

Not sure how it changes when they get older, but from personal experience growing up, think it’s always important to embrace them for who they are and guide them the best you can. What helps is a lot of personal reflection, because it’s so easy to want to mold them into a specific individual to feel in control when everything around you is falling apart or you got personal trauma that is not addressed properly. However, that’s so counterproductive. You just got to let your kid be themselves.

Not today, but tomorrow (01Jan). Technically a holiday for the company but I wanted to get this run done so I volunteered and let the team have off. Benefit is I’m allowed to shuffle my working holidays to a different day off.

I will be forever grateful that my PI for my doctorate focused on technical and scientific hands-on skills rather than sitting at a desk and writing papers. It helped me much more in my current industry, especially in the field of small-scale bioreactor work.

Same with my 12 year old greyhound for bloat, it’s absolutely heart breaking.

Do you find the Garmin biking computers worth the cost? I have an Enduro 3, wish they would let you track the activity on the phone simultaneously. However, based on someone else’s suggestion, Bikemap has been a very good alternative for me so far.

I just wanted to loop back and thank you for the advice. I absolutely love the app and it’s worth the cost in my opinion. It’s also quite accurate in matching my Enduro.

WorkOutdoors looks sweet, if I had an Apple Watch I would absolutely grab it.

I might have too, I wonder if there is an option of turning off “abandoned railroads”. They just look almost the same as trails. I haven’t looked deep into it.

I honestly don’t enjoy his sense of humor, he is not too awful in serious roles but still don’t go out of my way to watch. I could say the same for Seth Rogen, his laugh just annoys me to no end.
