  • In this war Iran showed that Israel iron dome is actually a sieve dome, with many vulnerabilities. Israel was also wrecked badly with many people fleeing. Iran also showed that both Israel and US attacks against nuclear sites were ineffective. Iran was also able to legally (in regards to international law) withdraw from the NPT.

This is an overall victory for Iran, even if Trump was able to save face.

I now think what is the balance of this war politically for Netanyahu’s faction. They started the war to avoid a political crisis. If they are able to stay in power that will also be bad news for the region.

Both parties are warhawks. Both parties represent the same interests, which are the interests of US hedge fund managers, bankers, financial capital, military arms manufacturers, big oil, mining, tech oligarchs and others. I don’t care about who is in power as both parties are enemies of the working class. This is what some libs in the US need to understand. And one side is just as brainwashed as the other.

Trump is not the problem, he is just a symptom of a wider problem. Regardless of having Democrats or Republicans, there is an advance in repression to workers in the US, as well as increase of violence in US foreign policy. 20 years ago they would not openly support a real time broadcasted genocide but nowadays they don’t care. Note this has nothing to do with Trump, as both Biden and Harris supported the exact same policies.

The big problem is that the US oligarchy knows that their grip on the world is loosening, therefore they are shamelessly promoting an acceleration of violence and repression, on par with what they did post WW2 when a lot of liberation movements exploded after the West was too weak to handle all of them at the same time.

All those moves are being done to quell any resistance that is being built in the global south. And they know that for doing this, they need to quell any unrest locally, as they need the population to sit apathically as they turn workers onto the imperial machine cannon fodder.

So your struggle as worker in the US has everything to do with what is happening in the middle east right now. We need international solidarity more than ever.

  • According to NY Times:

Three Iranian officials said that Iran had given advance notice that attacks were coming, as a way to minimize casualties. The officials said Iran needed to be seen striking back at the United States, but in a way that allowed all sides an exit ramp. They described it as a similar strategy to one used in 2020, when Iran gave a heads-up before firing ballistic missiles at an American base in Iraq after the assassination of its top general.

  • I doubt Qatar would want to get involved in this war. Unless Iran does something to actively harm Qatar, I think the Qatari monarchy may actually think Iran is doing them a favor.

Qatar is a mixed bag. There’s a Hezbollah unit inside Qatar territory. Qatar is also home to Al Jazeera, which is the main anti-Israeli newspaper in middle east. Qatar is also one of the places where people from different factions go to negotiate. It’s almost the Switzerland of the middle east.
