This can work, my psych prescribed me a low dose of instant release when I first switched to XR to use as a boost if the XR dose ended up not being enough.

You could also try phrasing it as you were skipping a day to try to prevent building a tolerance, but then got surprised with an unexpected busy day at work and having an amount of instant release would be handy if it happens again.

I’ll let someone else comment on the specific hardware, but the building really is just big expensive lego. You’ll be fine. Picking parts is much harder than putting it all together once you’ve got them imo.
