Unless Piefed gets a database import ability to port Existing Lemmy databases to that I don’t think Switching to it would be such a great idea. It would mean starting our instance from scratch and losing everything we have content, user registrations, communities. If Sublinks hadn’t stalled it could be a promising alternative, and maybe will be in the future, since it’s built around that whole concept of database and API compatibility.
This is really shitty but it doesn’t surprise me at all. He’s trying to make a shift because he doesn’t want to face repercussions of being labeled transphobic, possibly being widely banned and ostracized.
It’s very different when someone actually realizes they were wrong and want to change and be better. Nutomic isn’t doing that here, he just wants people to give donations and to avoid fallout from him letting his opinions slip publicly.
He’s an enlightened ““centrist””. I’m very familiar with these types.
A lot of the posts to the /lgbt/ board (some people refer to it as /tttt/ for certain reasons) are self-hatred posts, also most of the people who post there are nasty people who have been banned from other spaces for gatekeeping or attacking other queer people i.e. Transmedicalists, and Nonbinary exclusionists (people who don’t believe that Nonbinary people are valid at all).
So yeah I do think there is a lot of cognitive dissonance in people posting there, either people who hate themselves and feel the hate is justified, or people who think they’re the only real gay or trans people and everyone else outside their group is posing. Basically, either extemely misguided, or extremely nasty people.
I agree with this and I think it makes sense since mod actions are already public, they’re sent to every single server out there and any server which enables them will reveal mod names, and allow searching by mod. So I think it’s only natural to enable it to make ease of use better since it allows searching by the mod doing it in the modlog and lets you confirm whether it is a specific mod doing things. That can be useful for reporting but it can also just be useful for people just looking to avoid conflict. If @[email protected] moderates several communities and is banning people for being gay and outing them in the modlog I might want to report them specifically for doing that, but someone else might just want to avoid touching any of the communities they are doing that in. Being able to know which person is doing the bans can help with that.
I strongly disagree with the idea that knowing who did it is only useful as a form of vigilante justice, it can be but the people looking to do this will do it anyway. It is better as a tool for users to help better report abusive behavior, or even just avoid conflicts with a specific moderator.
Can it copy the existing database structure? Like could an instance migrate and have users just login to the piefed instance as if nothing had changed? If not point remains. Migrating software later in the life cycle of the platform is a destructive process, and one done with very little purpose considering the nature of open-source software.
