I don’t know how often working people might start with a million dollar mortgage, but it’d be fairly easy to find yourself in a million-dollar house. You could have bought something in the ~500K range back when things softened up during the end of the W term when the real estate market crashed. And now find that it’s worth over a million…I could also see two fairly highly-paid professionals that still have to continue working to make ends meet qualifying for a 30 year fixed loan on a million dollar+ house.
A million dollars definitely is not what it used to be…at least when it comes to the housing market in the Boulder/Denver area.
So painfully true. A million dollar house is not what people might imagine it is. I think a carve-out for primary residences certainly should be made, at least below some cut-off, let’s say something like 20 million. Property taxes already went through QUITE a re-adjustment, back in 2022, as-is.
