So has average intelligence fallen that much or has the distribution changed so much that the median and the average are quite different? Maybe our graph is now u shaped with a huge number at very low intelligence and equal a very high and not much middle ground? What is it about the internet and 24hour news that has collectively dumbed down the population?

Bubbaonthebeach@lemmy.cato No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•To refer casually to briefs-style men's underwear, is it Tidy Whities or Tighty Whities?English13·4 days agoTighty as opposed to loose boxers (before boxers were made out of stretch material and became tight as well).

We don’t get the last 20 years back for a do over. Import Chinese cars, decrease dependency on the US. Return to selling our soybeans and whatever else to China.
Bubbaonthebeach@lemmy.cato Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•what's your take on employers banning the use of languages other than English between coworkers at the workplace?English122·4 days agoAt the break table talking another language, no problem. Needing it to be able to understand their job, problem. Unless your clients are mostly Spanish it is their needs that are being overlooked. They need someone fully competent in an official language. If nurses revert to Spanish when they don’t understand things, then their manager doesn’t know what it is that they are having a problem with, unless someone is translating for her. She could end up in trouble for putting someone on a task that they are not able to do. I don’t immediately see it a a racist problem (although it could be) but a work safety problem.

Nothing he said warrants that. Plus unless he switches to constantly kissing Trump & MEGA asses, they will be trying to shut him down again in the near future. Unless Trump is gone, all US media will soon be propaganda only. Maybe he can get picked up in the UK or EU or Canada instead.

Perfectly fine if she dies in pregnancy or childbirth. It’s even fine if her death results in the fetus’ death.

Disgraced GOP, staunch Pro-life Politian Tim Murphy Coerced Mistress to Abort Affair Baby.English10·4 days agoAsk any doctor that has provided abortions and they will tell you that the loudmouths against always have representatives that show up wanting their “necessary” abortion. Whether it for their mistress, daughter, wife who can’t take another child or whatever. It’s the same as they are for most things, ok for me but not for thee.
That seems weird. All the people I know from the UK are into flaming hot Indian food so I can’t imagine they would have a problem with mild salsa. And I have yet to see an Aussie fridge that doesn’t have multiple bottles of extra hot sauces. I consider myself to be a wimp with hot spice - my stomach and I disagree on the matter and it wins - but even I can handle “mild”. Not that I believe people don’t exist (I know one or two), but that there would be enough population to make it a worthwhile sales change surprises me.
Bubbaonthebeach@lemmy.cato Fuck AI@lemmy.world•Just like Bill Gates, Zoom's CEO now says that AI could enable a 3-day workweek — at the cost of entry-level jobsEnglish11·5 days agoAt the cost of entry level jobs. So how exactly are future young workers supposed to gain the experience necessary for mid level jobs? Much of the ‘lack of employees’ that western companies currently complain of are a direct response to those very same companies stopping training of entry level employees 30-40 years ago. You often hear a 70-80 yo CEO brag about how they started in the mailroom and worked their way up. That isn’t possible now because companies expect all employees to already surpass the knowledge level needed for a job before they are hired, there is no company training provided.
About famine, how far off is the US from it? If their farmers are failing as bad as they say they are, coupled with droughts in various other farming areas around the world, and if Russia is still bombing agriculture in the Ukraine, are we in store for shortages any time soon?

Bubbaonthebeach@lemmy.cato No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How often do guys have a haircut?English3·7 days agoFor both men and women, the type of hair style matters. Long flowing can go 6 months between cuts. The shorter the cut and the more detail the more often it needs to be cut. 6 weeks is often the case for short cuts. If shaved parts, every week might be necessary. In warm weather more often than in cold weather.
Savory: Garlic Powder, Onion Powder on almost everything - sometimes even if I am using fresh versions. Sweet: Cinnamon. However I have about 20 spices that I have in high rotation and another 20 for occasional use. I also keep Chives, Flat Parsley, Oregano, Rosemary, Sage, Thyme & Mojito Mint plants.

Bubbaonthebeach@lemmy.cato politics @lemmy.world•Trump Says ‘Smart People Don’t Like Me’English15·10 days agoOh I think plenty of smart people “like” Trump. They know that they can manipulate him with ease. One thing he has always been good at is conning the ones who want to believe him. I don’t know if they are actually dumb or just want to believe their worldview no matter how much fact disputes it. Trump is a new breed of politician that will not only stretch the truth but will flat out lie that the sky is yellow, the sun purple and any facts, like your own sight, to the contrary, are fake. It’s easy to dismiss everyone who follows him as ignorant however I know many people who previously seemed sane and rational that somehow have taken leave of their senses to follow him.

I don’t know about liking the Russians since I think they have a big hand in what is happening in the US but it’s making China look much better or at least only as bad as the US is making itself.
