      It wasn’t.

The video is a 20 minutes long dive into the software architecture of Wolf3D, you commented within 3 minutes of my submission.

Unless you already knew the video, it’s unlikely your comment is qualified.

Well, it was a while ago, so I don’t remember details…

I don’t care about video. I am old enough to remember those times.

          Which is it?

The video is about software architecture, not whether it was the first 3D game or not. In fact, it explicitly references source code from Catacomb 3D in Wolf3D’s engine.

You are arguing about what you imagined the video might be about!!!

It isn’t about the 1st 3d video game. I didn’t watch the entire video but it took only a few seconds of scanning to understand that the video is about software design, not “who invented the 3d game”

I disagree because it was the code performance that made it ahead of its time. Other games that came out before it and even slight after had 3d but were slide shows in comparison.

Give me an example of a better game at the time because I don’t remember seeing any.

          Ultima Underworld was painfully slow.

Other 3d games with bitmap graphic that came out before were actual slide shows. Like Eye of the Beholder. You’d press a key and get the different 3d view as a single frame. Other real time 3d games at the time were 3d polygon based like Elite.
