You know what’s sad? These people have the memory span of a goldfish; if he becomes mayor (and it’s looking like he will) and nothing happens, they’ll delete this memory and then move on to complaining about something else. If Trump wants to be an anti-free speech authoritarian, then I’d be more than happy to recommend he ties these peoples’ right to free speech with the accuracy in fear mongering; you spread this kind of rhetoric, then it gets weighed against reality and if it’s found wanting, you lose your right to free speech.

A guy I know was recently saying that Walmart could shut down their branches and fire tons of people and ‘what are you going to do if they do that?’ Like BRO, companies fire tons of people all the time to get better returns for their shareholders; Blizzard lays off tons of people all the time for this! What did we do when THAT happened? I told him okay, then Zohran doesn’t become mayor and enact any of his policies but in return, because we’re supposedly so concerned about mass layoffs, we pass laws preventing companies from firing people without a valid excuse (basically get rid of at-will employment), so you good with that? ‘Ummm…no’

Every single stupid argument from the last 50 years lives on in a suburban boomer’s brain like the argument is still hot. There’s a lot of people out there who still genuinely believe that liberal cities burned down in 2020.
