I stumbled across this post after seeing the commentary by the writer and director about the show’s season 2 premiere. They were giving me bad vibes so I went to see if anyone else was feeling the same way. It turns out, yes. There are bad vibes all over the place. There are parallels to October 8th. for season 2 in favor of the Israelis, including the Hannibal Protocol, people being kidnapped, and so on.
And for those who don’t know, the show’s director previously directed Chernobyl. And of course he has anti-communist brainworms subsidized by fossil fuel companies on that show as well. He likes to hide behind “just asking questions” from the libbiest lib who ever libbed perspective.
So I haven’t played either game, but I have seen a bunch of Discoursetm about them, and I gotta say it’s weird how almost nobody who talks about this game ever talks about the Seraphites/WLF. Like I think I may have heard one or two reviewers mention them in passing but I had no idea what either group’s deal was until I read the post you linked.
It’s mostly in the background and since the seraphites are christian and their prophet is female most people don’t think much about it. The attention is mainly on the characters and the outrage at abby/story.
Maybe I’m just media illiterate, but I feel like this is a take that needs to some explanation.

But basically Neil Druckman is a massive Zionist, and his conception of Israeli/Palestine dynamics played a very strong role in the game’s conception of human nature, and how people relate to one another.
honest question - what has Druckman said that makes him a “massive Zionist”? (I don’t know anything about the guy other than he was born in the occupied west bank* and lived there as a young child)
*edit: actually he was born in Tel Aviv and his family moved to the west bank, not that it makes much of a difference

Did the tv show make it worse? The game was very both sides bad (but the seraphites were portrayed as backwards, religious, pedophilic -literally the aisha take- transphobic, had an attempted honor killing and irrational)
So while still liberal zionist in its narrative, its basically a step above blatant zionist propaganda.
Just finished hunger games Mockingjay. First time watching since I became a commie and yeah it’s awful for the exact same reasons.

The “Why can’t we all just get along and forgive one another instead of taking revenge?” is a position that only benefits the oppressor. We’ve seen what happens when slave owners and nazis were forgiven and they’ve done nothing but fester and spread their ideas.
Zionists spout the same rhetoric. They’ll kill your entire family, including children by shooting/stabbing, then ask you to just move on and stop being so hateful. The show’s creators have drawn parallels to the genocide in Palestine in favor of the Israelis. Some of these themes were present in the video game, but I’ve never played it so I wouldn’t know. I have, however, seen the show and it has bad vibes all over the place.
Idk Season 2 so far is a pretty good condemnation against this. I imagine it will get worst but

I walked away from the last episode feeling pretty upset about the council in Jackson not backing Ellie and the reasons were told by the homophobe for why they shouldn’t do nothing.
Also we are made to feel like we should hate Abby because Joel is the main protagonist, but even that there’s some moral dilemma in what would you do if some one point blank murdered your father who was trying to cure the world from an apocalyptic disease. The killing of the religious group by the WLFs will be interesting to see how they play that out, but they did that thing of look they even killed the children. Which is bad vibes as you said.
I have not watched it because I have had enough zombie slop, tell me more so my hate can be better justified.
