I’ve been using a 3rd party client to access posts on Lemmy. I loved the experience back when Reddit allowed 3rd party apps. But I felt the feed was a bit…one sided.

I figured it was just because I was new to Lemmy, but then I sorted posts by New.

Nothing but trans anime porn. It’s like the only people that came to Lemmy were the people that got kicked out of Reddit circles because all they could think about was trans anime porn.

Maybe I signed up on the wrong instance? But I don’t think that’s the problem.

How are so many people trying to treat Lemmy as a balanced alternative to Reddit?

What the fuck?!

I make liberal use if the Lemmy feature of blocking users/communities/instances.

I noticed the same thing as you—so much kinky shit when browsing All. I mostly don’t care what gets people off but I don’t need to see it in my feed. Eventually, I found that it was easiest to block entire instances where that stuff is prevalent. It’s not like you’ll miss anything important.

Same with communities and users. If I know a community isn’t going to interest me, I block it from All. If a user bothers me enough that I recognize the name, I block them.

It’s just better this way. You’re not missing much by blocking. Your time and attention is better spent on the things that matter to you.
