The state of ethical cocoa certification seems like kind of a mess, so I’m trying to figure out what else I can mix in my morning soy or whey protein powder hot drink to make it tasty, without having to worry that child slaves were beaten just so I could jumpstart my daily protein uptake without making a face. (Sweetness isn’t important either, I’ve been using plain unsweetened cocoa powder.)
Instant coffee
Malt extract
Peanut four
CinnamonThere is no substitute for pure cocoa, unfortunately. The best you can do is buy from Fair Trade sellers, but they only certify the cooperative groups they trade with, and not the actual farms afaik.
Reishi mushroom powder is surprisingly chocolatey.
There is no substitute for chocolate. I’d make a protein shake and blend in some fruit. Bananas and frozen berries are great.
Depends on where you live if it’s ethical concerns, but it’s hard to go wrong with a berry of some kind.
Peanut butter powder?
Carob?
Nobody likes carob. Anyone who says it’s good is lying or deluded. It’s most definitely not a replacement for chocolate.
