Don’t pose these two things as a tradeoff. Protecting kids means a habitable planet and a world in which we protect them from predatory behavior. Also it’s really about surveillance, not protection.
It does seem a bit strange that it’s taken basically as a given that accidentally stumbling upon a picture of people not wearing stuff that didn’t even exist when the species evolved will do some sort of inevitable psychological harm to a kid. Intentional exposure sure, that’s about as sus as it gets, but that’s not what the kid finding something not aimed towards kids entails anyway.
Politicians absolutely are using culture war bs like this to bolster support for authoritarian structures needed to protect the wealthy from the consequences of their actions so yeah seems like a pretty apt meme.
The meme is that the kids at the climate march are asking for protection from climate change and the politicians are wasting taxes and time providing “protection” from the internet instead

Censorship protects nobody. That’s the joke.
If you want to protect kids these laws are not the way to do it. The only way to do so is social methods, not mass technological laws.
Children don’t need to be protected from nudity, it’s a ridiculous and frankly harmful idea that they do.

Only the US takes it this way. And Iran. And Taliban Afghanistan.

If children can read the internet, they might go to climate marches and that would be terrible for our wallets.
Read!? No we’re protecting them from that too.
