Hey all. I’d like to open an official discussion regarding the upturning of the prior Hexbear party line on an :israel-cool: emote proper with the unambiguous Zionist flag.
I want to preface this by saying this is not in a ‘ceding the issue’ way. Over the past year I’ve been trying to engage in self-crit w/rt the chauvinism I’ve internalized growing up in a Liberal Zionist household, and my personal viewpoint on it did a 180 some months back, so I want to reopen this discussion proper in my personal capacities as Self-Appointed Emote Czar.
The reason it’s taken long enough beyond that is prior to July, I was essentially half-engaged with the site in order to finish out my degree. After that, it’s been mostly inertia of confirming with the admins and other /c/Judaism mods, as well as having to be rigorous about my job search personally giving me little free time to coordinate this.
I do not want to center myself in this conversation more than I inadvertently already have, so I will leave my own opinion on the issue as a comment rather than explaining further here.
The consensus we’ve roughly come to is to open up the discussion in an official manner for a day or so. After that, I’ll weigh the discussion in an entirely vibes-based manner (sorry Dean Norris enjoyers) and we’ll alter Hexbear party line on it accordingly.
Zposter should stay banned on account of being a fucking pest forever, regardless of the outcome of this.
There’s just no reason to have a burning isreal flag. We can certainly be more creative than that. Historical context is an important part of being a materialist and we ignore it at our own peril.

they are committing a genocide, their flag has probably overtaken the US flag as most burned around the world, even Jewish people are burning the flag. there are a lot of reasons why a website that has ANY burning flag emojis should also have the israel flag and honestly the only reason I’ve seen against it is “potential antisemitism” which even jewish users here are saying is BS and not real.
I also saw your comment in the other thread about opening a history book and was wondering what you meant by that because the history of the star of david is that it wasn’t a religious symbol for Jews until it was put on the zionist flag and turned into a representation of zionism

“Pest” is a common term used to dehumanise, comparing someone to rats or bugs.
Sure. I can agree that it’s probably not the nicest word I could use. But racist? How would I even know z posters race? I even tried to look this up and I am not seeing any broad context where “pest” is considered racist. If it’s racist in some specific context I’m not aware of and can’t learn about by trying to search for said context…fine, I’ll edit it. Racism is a serious fucking claim.
We’re just witch hunting now and apparently I need to be slaughtered too. No one wants you slaughtered. No one is threatening you. No one is cancelling you. People are arguing against the positions you’re espousing, because those positions are gross.
