I rewatched this last week without even realising the anniversary was coming up. It shows its age in a lot of places but it’s crazy that such an unapologetically transgressive & queer piece of media like it was made in 1975. Tim Curry’s performance in this is phenomenal, especially in those last few songs during the floor show. It’s not technically a ‘good’ movie but it’s probably my favourite movie ever made.

Oh, yay. The rape flick that got kink all wrong, and is lauded by idiots & predators. Whee.

edit: Ah, yes, downvote in soothing anonymity, citizens, and go with your gut re: US rape culture. No one will ever know. Except you. Maybe that’s enough? We’ll just have to hope so.

I worked on a production of RHPS last year, and I definitely think the movie reads that way from a modern lens. There was a lot of discussions about how the actors could show the audience that they were consenting to most of it. The directors skipped over consenting in the floor show (where everyone is under mind control). It was still very empowering for the cast to be out and queer, and sexy on stage in our very conservative town.

Oh? The surprise night scene w/ the husband? He consents in the new script? How lovely for everyone involved. Good thing that that was the only problematic instance. 😶
