Banned last night and all my comments removed for calling out a Zionist troll who FREQUENTLY posts comments trashing Palestinians and celebrating death in the name of Israel.
But I’m the one that gets banned for Checks Notes “Rule 3: No Nazis, QAnon or similar”
What a circus, mods did ZERO due diligence before banning and the Zionists comment remains!
So, one of these 4 is a certified Power Tripping Bastard
Just a general complaint.
While I know that it’s not always doable, when posts here don’t contain a screen shot of the original comment or post, it makes it harder to give a damn about it.
I mean, here you are making a claim that what you said didn’t violate that rule, but we gotta jump through hoops to discover what was said.
Regarding your edit, how often you use a community isn’t relevant. You could spend hours every day in a C/, and that doesn’t excuse you from community rules. Totally not useful for forming an opinion on a mod or admin action
My own edit: you don’t have anything in your user history for weeks that’s in that community, so it makes that aspect even less relevant
Is the screenshot not showing for you? I posted a screenshot of the comment exchange.
IMHO we as users of Lemmy should absolutely be hounding the scum from the platform unless we want this to devolve into the same shit reddit has (a trend i’ve seen more and more and more over the last 6 months or so)
Ahhh, it was the app not showing the other screen shot, but what that one shows is you going after someone unprovoked.
Essentially, your own post is showing you harassing someone. So, definitely a YDI situation.
Now, I get it, you want to be active against an ideology that you believe is harmful. That part is fine.
But it absolutely is not fine to just follow people around and harass them everywhere, when they aren’t displaying that ideology.
If you have a serious concern about a user, the only acceptable way to go about handling it is to contact the admins of their instance and show them that not only is your belief fact based, but that the person is guilty of something worthy of having their account shut down.
The mods in the community you were in, based on what you did, were absolutely right to take action. If anything, for someone that engaged in both an attack without direct, in-thread cause, and as an attack of harassment, you got off light. That’s the kind of behavior that merits a permanent ban in my book. You don’t do that, it’s disruptive and destructive to any community it happens in. It’s a violation of the basic social contract of how communities work.
You should have brought the problem to the attention of the mods, if you felt that the person shouldn’t be allowed to comment there, not just go off because you tagged someone that you don’t like
Serious. With you having tagged the person, them not having said anything espousing a “zionist” stance in that thread, that is 100% harassment. Hell, if your instance admins shut down your account, it would be well within their scope, if they have anti-harassment rules in place.
I mean, I’m sitting here as someone that has said it was a mistake at the end of ww2 to not kill every nazi in every country, and if someone was following someone around just making unsupported claims that someone else was a nazi, I’d ban the fuck out of them on any community I mod. Then I’d go look and see if they’re right, and ban the Nazi if it was true.
You can’t do that shit, it isn’t acceptable.
I’m seeing one of the temp ban, and one mod names. That’s all I’m getting here, via this app. I’ll check another and see if that’s the problem
Shouting ‘Zionist’ at someone when they aren’t talking about Zionism-related issues makes you come off as a lunatic. It’s more likely to get you hounded off the platform.
It’s not enough to be passionate. You have to be strategic as well.
The alternative is making a Comm specifically for calling the scum out but that would get de fed immediately.
I’m just glad this post had brought some people to actually look into this fucker and maybe be more aware of the users they are interacting with on Lemmy. Someone might post a cut doggy picture and thats great, but maybe we should all be more aware of if that same person has posted racist or otherwise intolerable shit in the past too.
There’s always a space for a /c/shitlemmysays comm, but you have to be prepared to do the work and have a super thick skin
Would it?
There are plenty of drama comms. I’m sure there’s an instance out there which doesn’t mind hosting one more.
It would just require someone with a lot of fucking patience to mod it.
Yeah, I make mental notes of the worst of them, but I’m also terminally online.
I see the screenshot
