    I’ve had that as a semi-serious idea, that we should have conscription into the service industry or at least government incentives for working service-industry jobs. If everyone had to serve at least a little bit as a cashier, server, cook or other related job regardless of wealth/education I believe it could go a long way towards increasing class awareness and empathy.

    We wouldn’t have cash registers.

    But I think we would have forms and other administrative procedures. So processing them, helping people with them etc, will be a job requiring humans.

    And if everyone helps a little but it’ll give them insight to the mechanisms which they’ll keep the rest of their lives. Has the inverse effect of making reforms difficult as people often prefer the devil they know.

    We’ll establish a museum of customer service where they can volunteer for 8 hour shifts of standing at a cash register while people walk up and say the most grating, stupid shit to them
