Keynote - Maria Farrell on the importance of rewilding the Internet

How do we fix the “wicked problem” of how tech is destroying democracy, art, relationships, the environment, and so much of what makes life on Earth worth living? Rewild it.

We need to treat the internet like a damaged and degraded natural habitat and tackle its monocultural fragility, extractive business model, and hard-right billionaire ownership. Ecologists already know how to regenerate denuded landscapes using the one thing that gives us resilience and choices for our future; diversity. In this keynote, Maria Farrell will use ecology to inspire you with a new way to see, feel about and fix our digital world, and leave you with the key and courageous changes we all need to make to recreate a habitat we actively want and choose to live in.

I try to be as active as I can on the fediverse. I like the indieweb / smallweb movement as well, but I think interconnected platforms built on ActivityPub are the future.

What else can I do to help rewild the internet

On the fediverse I post stuff that interests me to relevant Lemmy or PieFed communities, I run a few communities myself, I recently started mirroring some YouTube videos that are licensed under creative commons to PeerTube.

Being active on here is generally a good thing. Without content these networks would be empty.
