Support for joining the European Union is higher in Canada than in Norway
Yes Canada! Join us! We love you!
My hearts with Canadians, but the number for Canada is more about sentiment, as Norway’s is more real.
Hey, don’t minimize our sentiments!
Only 44% say yes, I have no idea why it would be so low
Because we don’t know the implications? Joining the EU would come with a bunch of commitments that most people who are saying yes right now don’t even realize.
This is a knee-jerk reaction. It’s not a small decision that we should make while on the rebound.
Lets start by making some really epic trade deals and go from there.
Because we don’t know the implications?
That’s exactly the reason why the British voted to leave, which was a very very bad choice.
Norway is understandable they don’t want to join. What the EU has, they have it better. The few benefits they would get are things they happily pay for with the Schengen deal as this is the cheaper option for them. But Canada isn’t in the same luxury position as Norway, not even close, barily any country in the world is.
For every country in the EU it has been hugely beneficial, even for the richest countries (while they pay to support the poorer countries).
Anti EU politicians haven’t been able to make true statements as to why the EU is bad. All their claims have been marked as fake news and blatent lies.
Nothing is all sunshine and rainbows, there are improvements to be made, as in any democratic society, but these issues are vastly outweighed by all the benifits.
Together we are strong. Our enemies seek to divide us, that should say enough. Let’s stand together.
If I did the research would you read it?
As I mentioned elsewhere, Canadians have been pushing for this for a long while
Canadians have been pushing for this for a long while
How many? I’ve never heard it in a big way like we are now.
Because there hasn’t really been a concerted effort in Canada yet?
It was pushed around a decade ago along with CANZUK as an anti-American movement
We thought the Hans Island settlement was the start of our bid, so it’s definitely not new
An effort not being new doesn’t mean there has been a significant effort. Besides, if you’re insinuating another reason for the “low” percentage, just say it
We thought the Hans Island settlement was the start of our bid, so it’s definitely not new
How? This was literally just resolving territorial disputes. The fact that it was with a member of the EU (Denmark) is just coincidence.
An effort not being new doesn’t mean there has been a significant effort.
That’s just a political effort, outside of parliament there was a significant push by the people for it to the point that we had CANZUK as the conservative counter offer to it
Not to say there’s anything wrong with CANZUK, both would be ideal
Besides, if you’re insinuating another reason for the “low” percentage, just say it
Survey bias or EU support has gone down
This was literally just resolving territorial disputes.
Because we had high EU support at the time and it didn’t seem like something we would go out of our way to do if it wasn’t for that so it was something Canadians thought was signalling that our politicians were finally listening to us
