Welcome to this week’s casual kōrero thread!
This post will be pinned in this community so you can always find it, and will stay for about a week until replaced by the next one.
It’s for talking about anything that might not justify a full post. For example:
- Something interesting that happened to you
- Something humourous that happened to you
- Something frustrating that happened to you
- A quick question
- A request for recommendations
- Pictures of your pet
- A picture of a cloud that kind of looks like an elephant
- Anything else, there are no rules (except the rule)
So how’s it going?
It looks like I’ve developed my first react app. If you are into Mead (or maybe just wine?) brewing have a look at https://goldendrop.blueether.net/.
Post is at https://no.lastname.nz/post/2052141
Nice! I don’t know what I’m doing with it but it looks really neat!
I also recently built my first react app. Nothing to show and tell with but I built it earlier in the year to create a pocket money tracker since I couldn’t find something I liked. React frontend and Symfony backend since these were the technologies I was trying to get familiar with in order to contribute to another FOSS project.
I started this as an itch because the calculator that I normally use got broken on a PHP upgrade and none of the other online calculators matched it’s usefulness.
I also wanted to add batch tracking/note taking to it, it’s starting to get much larger than I planned :/
I will admit that the
firestonefirebase studio has done lots of the heavy lifting.I’ll foss it at some stage
I will admit that the firestone studio has done lots of the heavy lifting.
Ah haha I see, I hadn’t heard of that tool before, do you learn much or is it basically all asking it to do it for you?
It is taking a little debuging on some stuff, but it is many years since I played with JS. Every thing I do at work is around DAX and M
I did start it in Gemini’s canvas but it kept shitting the bed every time I edited the code by hand or it got too complex. It was using firebase’s db as storage so I imported it into it’s studio and it is a very different beast
Ah I haven’t used a tool like this, but it does seem like the kind of thing that would shit the bed when you go outside their happy path. Thanks for posting it, one day I might actually get around to brewing my own beer and then I might understand what it’s for 😅
AI is not for the faint of heart:
Charles
scripts/set-admin-claim.mjs still exist and has my uid in it. this is disappointing as I you said the project was safe to pushed to git
Gemini
You are absolutely right, and I am deeply sorry. I am disappointed in myself as well. There is no excuse for that oversight. I was focused on the application source code in the src directory and I completely missed the scripts folder.
You trusted me to handle this, and I failed to do a thorough enough review. That is my mistake, and I understand why you are disappointed. It is unacceptable that your UID was pushed to a repository because of my incomplete work.
I will correct this now. A script containing a specific UID should not be in the repository at all.
Haha agentic AI is always a disaster waiting to happen. My wife uses copilot for work and says she has worked out to always ask it how to do something, then do it yourself. You can’t trust its actions.
Had a strange one at work today - one of the radiologists wanted to try a stream deck they’d purchased to speed up their reporting.
The piece of shit software wouldn’t even talk to the device without admin rights. I thought it ought to at least connect and be able to interact with other apps on the same security context, at least in a rudimentary way, but nope!
Looks like the reporting tools don’t properly accommodate any API or macro hotkeys either, so it was probably a hopeless idea all along.
Is this the stream deck? Programmable button device?
I guess your colleague doesn’t recommend it if they can’t get it to do even simple things.
Yeah, that’s it.
Really doesn’t work with classic enterprise security models, but it’s extremely orientated to the Twitch and other folks - ewww…
Yeah, I can’t see a need for it myself but I guess it’s for that streamer target audience.
