Hong Kong’s biggest pro-democracy party voted Sunday to dissolve after more than 30 years of activism, marking the end of an era of the Chinese semiautonomous city ‘s once-diverse political landscape.
Democratic Party chairperson Lo Kin-hei said the political environment was “one important point” among the factors they considered, and about 97% of members’ ballots were in support of its liquidation. He said it is the best way forward for its members.
Party veterans had earlier told The Associated Press that some members were warned of consequences if the party didn’t shut down.

That’s bad
Indeed. There isn’t much bigger of a sign that the autocrat has won than the freedom fighters disbanding.
It certainly is, but something that was always to be expected unfortunately. Capitalists and oligarchs despise democracy. It’s been happening a bit more slowly throughout the rest of the world. But the new ruling class is entrenching themselves.
Though I’m sure an ML will be along shortly to tell us all how. “Um aksually, it’s good when their guy does it.”
Ml will say china has 7(?) independent parties that are totally not fully controlled opposition
