The same website makes metal buttons, resin buttons with real bugs inside, and more. Overall it’s not really anything I’m personally interested, but I love that the deck has enough support, and is tinker friendly enough, that stuff like this is even an option.

I was curious if they were using farmed bugs or something else

From the page for the bug Dpads:

Rest assured, no creepy crawlies were harmed in creating these unique dpads – each bug was respectfully collected after natural passing, discovered in serene settings like windowsills, tangled in spider webs, or peacefully outdoors. These DPADs are not just gaming accessories; they’re a tribute to the beauty of nature, combined with the thrill of Halloween! 🕷🍂

As someone who prefers the Nintendo layout, it would be cool if they offered that as an option.

Just swap the buttons to match Nintendo layout, and then there’s a toggle in the steam settings>controller to switch to Nintendo layout

Edit ok actually I guess that won’t work, the b button specifically is special and can’t be swapped looks like.

People on Etsy sell custom buttons, including Nintendo ones.

They’ve also recently added an option for layout-agnostic glyphs that show the position of the button (the four hollow circles with the button in question filled in) which I kind of prefer
