No? Then can you explain to me why this comment is relevant at all? I’m aware that China has shitty policies in regards to some minorities, but are you insinuating that’s the reason they’re able to build infrastructure so quickly?
China is building energy independence to be able to act geopolitically independent, not to be a saviour of the world (i.e. national interest). They can do it quickly domestically because no one can stand in their way. The current republican party is creating a framework to also reduce the amount of resistance they face when enacting their vision.
I’m not asking for anyone to feel bad for macroeconomics… Just not to indiscriminately believe that overreach is a good thing when it happens to align with our own interests.

This is standard Orban propaganda and can be ignored.
The EU does not hold enough cards to ignore the threat of a 30% tarrif as it currently relies on the US for energy, with the only (immediate term) alternative being Russia.
It is incredibly sad to see the Americans blackmail a long-standing and key global ally. This will take generations to repair.
It is clear the EU was not aligned on how to proceed with these negotiations. Sometimes, aligning the interest of 27 states is difficult.
It’s a similar reach that a certain loud orange man is trying to instill E.g.. As long as it doesn’t directly negatively impact your life, you probably won’t notice too much.
I think this just shows the lack of cards the EU has to play at this point in time.
Also a completely integrated local and low-cost supply chain, unlimited access to cheap physical labour and an incredible government overreach to ensure every company is towing the same line.

Within an infinitely long timeline, yes. Transitions take time and few are willing to take the immediate financial (and thus political hit) to do so.
One example is pharmaceutical companies, which represent a significant portion of goods produced in Europe. There is no market similar to the US where prices and consumption are both significantly high, so I would argue they would simply take a significant hit.
Economics is rarely done in long term thought because political cycles rely on economic performance. It’s stupid, but here we are…

I would argue that the comments can be taken lightly and not as an “unofficial” government position, given the above point and that the comments were made at a BAE systems funded event.
Most non-americans I know use a toaster, not a toaster oven. These require quite a bit less space and are significantly quicker than bread & pan method (also lower calorie, because you don’t need to butter or oil the bread before “cooking”).
For those of us who eat toast on the daily, a standard English style toaster is absolutely essential.
