  • It depends on what you mean by engage and with who. Most people can be talked to, but likely not on the internet. If I ever wanted to have a discussion with a Trumper that wasn’t immediately hostile, I’d want to be able to talk in person, ideally in neutral conditions. If I wanted to talk with a more conservative liberal, online discussions still might not have enough empathy to genuinely reach them.

Arguing with right wingers on Reddit, Twitter, or Bluesky is a fundamentally flawed approach that can do little to actually change minds. People are emotional beings who require emotional engagement to reach, and that is extremely difficult to do through social media. Ideally you’d try to communicate outside of your internet bubble by volunteering in your local community. You’ll meet plenty of people with more conservative views that way.

  • Due to an foolish oversight, we didn’t have a rule about AI in the sidebar. Going forward, obvious AI will be removed and providing sources will be highly encouraged to prevent posts being removed. In practical terms, you’re not allowed to post AI, but there might be some circumstances where we can’t confirm if something is AI or not (think a source who is able to pass off AI as real work, but can’t it can’t be confirmed).

This post will stay up because the rules weren’t in place, but in the future a post like this will be removed.
