Again, the problem its not “ old and white” that would be stupid. It’s that a majority of the old white people take corporate bribes and care more about power than anything else. This applies to young non white folks as well. They also need to go if they take bribes and care about staying in power more than helping the people.
Not sure why this is confusing…
The problem is not that they are old and white, it’s that they are taking corporate bribes and don’t give a shit about the next generation.
That’s not the case with Bernie. He’s too old now, but ten years ago he was more than good enough to make up for his oldness and his whiteness. Making himself a platform for AOC to stand on was a good thing as well.
I vote in every election, I knock on doors, I phone bank.
But in the end it doesn’t matter. When the DNC decided Bernie Sanders wouldn’t be their guy and rammed Clinton through, they got sued by Bernie supporters for cheating.
They said in court, for the world to hear, that yes, they cheated, yes they broke their own rules to make Hillary the pick, but rules aren’t laws and no one but the DNC can enforce the rules, so fuck all yall we can take your donations and choose who we want.
Everyone knows this now. No one believes in the system. Is very hard to get people to set aside this knowledge and get excited about a candidate that we would actually want, when we know who ever takes the most bribes gets the nomination.
Then nobody wants to vote, the ones who really don’t want republicans do it anyway, but nobody is happy about it.
I live in California (hence the Newsom hate) and it’s incredibly easy to vote here. Even before universal mail in was a thing, I never waited more than 5 minutes to vote. People in red states wait upwards of 8 hours much of the time. No one is standing in line for 8 hours to vote for someone they really don’t want anyway.
Once again, we are allowed to hate the corporate fellating shit heels BEFORE the primary. In two years. We can point out the obvious shortcomings and demand an actual progressive. Right up until the DNC chooses Gavin, despite what their voters want. Then we have to hold our nose and vote for the asshole that platforms Nazis while doing his best Blue Steel in his Gucci suit.
You can’t just continue what you were doing while it rings, you have to freeze and hardly breathe while you stare at it like a deer in headlights so they don’t hear you through the unanswered phone or God forbid you move wrong and it accidentally picks up.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Who are the best female authors of all time?
7·3 days agoSome would say that was Margaret Cavendish, 150 years earlier. Mary Shelly’s novels are and have been more popular though.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Who are the best female authors of all time?
8·3 days agoAgree with all of the above, would add T. Kingfisher for fantasy, Iris Murdoch for heady philosophical fiction, Agatha Christie for murder mystery, Clarissa Pinkola Estés for empowering fables and explorations of feminine archetypes, Mary Oliver for poetry, and Lady Margaret Cavendish for a great sci-fi novel from 1666.
Depends on your state of fertility. You may be given a red dress and assigned to a new house. Blessed be the fruit.

It’s being referred to as a privilege that can be taken away. There has been discussion among the ultra right in the last four years of making the male head of household the only one with voting rights.
This law is being pushed to “protect the integrity of votes” by only letting people vote if their name matches their birth certificate, which would put up a barrier to climb over for married women who have changed their last name and trans people whose names don’t match their birth certificate and people who don’t have access to or the money to get a copy of their birth certificate.
The Pentagon says Pete Hegseth supports women’s right to vote, even though he reposts videos of church leaders saying they should not vote.

10·6 days agoI can’t find it now, but there was an experiment where people were given a skill game to try and let alone in a (recorded) room, then self reported their score.
When the experimenter casually mentioned that this rocking chair over here was his late grandmother’s, he was just keeping it there until he could move it to his home, because he felt her presence in it, nobody lied about their score.
So, Batman and granny ghosts.

57·6 days agoShe quit to be a P.I. that specifically investigated police misconduct. There was a great episode where she got water tight evidence to nail a cop and brought it to the police commissioner, who thanked her and destroyed it.
The commissioner believed that prosecuting the cop would have gotten her removed from office and “someone worse” would take over, and she considered herself “one of the good ones.”
