  • As a gen X, 47, part of the latch key generation. You just did things yourself and became resilient yourself. Parents always had a set of phone numbers to call if needed. You had access to a phone book but mostly you just called your friends and got a group together to do something with. Go fishing, Ride bikes, hangout, pickup baseball sandlot style, basketball, swimming, or Nintendo when it was hot out during the summer.

And we all taught each other stuff, some of us knew how to change a bike tire, some of us knew how to tie fishing knots and what baits to use. And we all had our way of getting some stuff for free or discounted stuff from a parents business, restraunt or arcade.

We all knew who’s dads had porno mags and where they were hidden. And on occasion we could sneak some cigarettes or beer.

There would be days during the summer I’d be out of the house before my parents and they wouldn’t see me well past sunset. Shit was just easier and the world less scary I guess.

As far as driving in cities we didn’t live in, I have no idea how my parents found shit. Lincoln, grand island I can find things easily without Gps. And any rural town with 300 miles of them. Omaha I can’t find shit without Gps

I struggle with my daughter because her mother is afraid of everything and that’s been passed to her. Some things I get, and I’m glad she has a phone with her, I’d like her to take more initiative in finding things to do herself and I push her and my wife to let her be more independent

  • Sounds like the maga movement got her, like it has already destroyed so many friendships and torn families apart.

I lost a few friends over politics but the one that surprised me the most was my best friend of over 35 years. 2 years ago it started, then he didn’t speak to me for a whole year then the night Trump won, I just messaged him our friendship is done.

I considered him my brother, we talked at least twice a week, and honestly he was more liberal than even I was, but sometime during COVID the manosphere got him. And the friend I knew was no more.

Now I really don’t have a social circle of male friends , just spend my time with my wife and daughter

  • This would have got me banned from reddit but the feeling is mutual towards the right. Tired of Dems not fighting back and taking the high road when they are in charge. I want them to abuse every ounce of power the republicans have if they ever get the chance again.

No longer falling for this states rights bs, we will impose the federal governments will on states like Texas. No more partisanship.

I want pure unadulterated threats and overabuse of power with zero remorse or regret. I want people who homeschool their kids to make it nearly impossible for them to do so by not meeting standards and forced to send them to public, no more indoctrination by retards. . I want churches taxed, single payer healthcare mandatory while the healthcare insurance industry burns to the ground and their stocks worthless.

I want those who refuse to do their job as government employees imprisoned for stealing taxpayer funds disguised as salary.

Owning more than 2 homes or notes is taxed 300% beyond the second. And owning more than 20% of apartments in a municipality is taxed as well. It’s time boomers lose their nest egg.

I want a new military branch that’s not under the rule of the president that will enforce the laws that the law can’t enforce and clearly violates the constitution and has power above all the other branches.

  • I have to ask why sports? Surely there is some sport you are interested in.

I’ve recently discovered I’ve been lying to myself on baseball, and how much I loved the game as a kid and I regret not pursuing it after highschool all because of the mlb strikes in the 90s. I just stopped watching and participating. For me and a lot of people during that time I guess the mindset was, I work in the heat all day, not just for 3 hours and those players are bitching about the millions they make aren’t enough. There’s some truth to that but it completely blinded me to what I loved, now I’m to old to even compete in men’s slow pitch leagues

Since my daughter is now playing softball, just playing catch and working with her on pitching has made me truly realize how great the game is, the feel of the glove, the sound of the bat cracking, or the sound of a fastball hitting a glove.

For a game that’s been played as much for so long and there are still records being broken or first time for something is truly amazing.

My interest in football is at a all time low, no longer follow NFL, but still love college even though it’s becoming a shadow of its former self.

And volleyball is peaking because of my daughter as well

  • My problem is doni have time for new games, we have a switch for my daughter and we barely play it. I like Nintendo games but I have a hard enough time completing any game. I think there’s one or two games in my entire Xbox collection I’ve actually completed.

My problem is only having maybe an hour or two late evening I’ll play something for a week, try something else because I get tired of playing the same thing then forget what I was doing in the other game and want to start over.

If I was going to get a handheld I think I’d much prefer the new Asus rog that Xbox worked on
