The messaging for climate change, often wrapped as a joke or not said directly to Gen Z is “this is your problem, [the consequences will come in your adulthood]” or “this is for your generation to solve”.

B.S of course, By the time Gen-Z gets any power it’ll be too late.

With AI I’m frequently seeing people, often fairly smart, good people saying things like “oh yeah AI is totally going to destroy X industry. I mean I’ll be retired, so I’ll be fine, but you’ll have to figure something out”.

My father says this frequently. My CTO at work who’s been heavily pushing AI was asked “aren’t you afraid it’ll make you dumber?” responded “of course! But I’m retiring soon anyway, who cares”. A lot of AI “leaders” often imply the same thing.

Often dressed up as a joke. I laugh along. It’s never been funny and continues to get less funny.

Usually from older people, millennials are still young enough that ill effects will hit them before retirement (assuming you chaps manage to retire at all).

yeah as a millennial I’m still waiting for some power to do anything about anything. Old boomers still well and truly in charge, still way more of them than there are of us.

Politically speaking millennials seem to be getting power right around now. In the US ppl like AOC and Zohran Mamdani. Probably some on the right too, but I don’t know those as much.

We are all stewards of this earth until our last breath. What we take, what we give, shows how our next generations will prosper or perish. Unfortunately most older folks are too selfish to care.

Never heard this as a joke, I did hear it from people about to retire but they weren’t joking.

What I do get is " no, you’ll soon see how this will create more jobs in the long term. It’s the same that happened with computers, nobody liked them at first, now they’re everywhere".

Remember, a huge number of the No Kings protesters were Boomers and Gen Xers. While not 1:1 on this issue, there are still old people worried about the state of the future.

Sucks people you know are not that, though. Also not sure where millennials like myself are… probably working to survive. Lol

Older people tend to get out of the house more.

I’m mainly talking about AI though, not politics in general.
